Piscator: contemporaries and critics-- Notes-- Chronological Table-- Bibliography-- Index. (source: Nielsen Book Data) Summary This text was the first full study of Erwin Piscator, the German theatrical producer who was prominent in the s and worked after with the writers Hochhuth, Kipphardt and Weiss.

Brecht's approach to epic theatre drew on the work of earlier director Erwin Piscator, as well as cabaret, Elizabethan history plays and new technologies of light and sound. Andrew Dickson explores how the rejection of naturalism, in the service of political ideals, underpins Brecht's plays, and considers the influence of Brecht's techniques on theatre today. If that is the case, Corless-Smith is-somewhat self-consciously-a poet in the school of Bottom. The "drama" entitled "Of Piscator" is particularly reminiscent of the production of "Pyramus and Thisbe" in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and even includes a fence as one of its speaking parts.
